Dr. David L. Albright is a professor of social work and Hill Crest Foundation Endowed Chair in Mental Health Research at The University of Alabama. His academic interests and scholarship address health promotion among vulnerable populations and within underserved communities and military Veterans. Dr. Albright is the Principal Investigator for the Vital initiative. Vital is a research, implementation, and training initiative working towards improving the health and well-being of the citizens of Alabama. Vital currently works with community stakeholders within and across Alabama’s 67 counties. Dr. Albright’s research has been funded by CMS, DOD, HRSA, NIH, SAMHSA, VA, and multiple other state and national entities.
Dr. Albright holds multiple gubernatorial appointments in the state of Alabama with the objective of advising policy for its most vulnerable citizens. He was appointed to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Committee on the Well-Being of Military Families and SAMHSA expert panel on PTSD. During his career, he earned research fellowships with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the National Rural Health Association, and the RAND Corporation’s Center for Military Health Policy Research. Dr. Albright has been recognized for excellence and innovation in teaching and curriculum design and received the Outstanding Commitment to Advising award by The University of Alabama. He has also been recognized by the University with the Outstanding Community Engagement Effort and the President’s Faculty Research awards.
