Andrew Burnett currently serves as Senator Richard Shelby’s (R-Ala.) Legislative Assistant, where he manages the Senator’s priorities within the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee. He also works on healthcare issues as they relate to the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Subcommittee, and he is Senator Shelby’s Health Policy Advisor on all authorizing healthcare legislation.
Prior to joining Senator Shelby’s staff, Andrew served as a Health Research and Policy Assistant on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee for Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.). In this role, his portfolio of issues consisted of public health, insurance and payment, health information technology, and delivery of care. Before moving to Washington, D.C., to concentrate on healthcare policy, Andrew worked in administrative roles at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and MEA Medical Clinics a Service of St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson, Miss.
